As you may know, we still have three GM vacancies: the Arizona Diamondbacks, Oakland Athletics, and San Francisco Giants.
Membership from the EC has taken charge of free agent bidding on behalf of those teams. Recently, two events occurred within a few days of each other: a) the EC-led Texas Rangers submitted a bid on Tier One FA 2B Robinson Cano, which was the winning bid; and b) a new GM was located for that franchise.
Within a timeline not exceeding a few days, the new Rangers GM submitted a request to the league to nullify Cano’s newly signed contract, in that it took the franchise in different direction that he saw as the best approach. That request was approved.
The EC then offered Cano to the team with the second-highest bid for him, and that franchise declined adding him to their roster.
As such, Robinson Cano has re-entered free agency and will be available to any team during Tier Two FA.
