Pirates off-season plans
« on: 20 Nov 2018 11:34:55 AM »
The Pirates will consider moving Mike Moustakis and/or Wil Myers. Moustakis is at the end of a 4 year LTC ($11mil), Myers is entering his 6th year of service.

Others certainly available are Dan Palka (LF/RF/DH), Jaime Garcia, Andrew Triggs, Adam Lind & any RP.
Truth be told about the only guy on the 25 man roster we are reluctant to part with is Conforto.

Surprise Surprise - Guess who is having a Fire Sale?

Let's get the list of what we are not looking to trade out of the way right at the top. We're highly unlikely to trade:
Conforto
Buxton
Odor
Brian Anderson
Our 1st round pick

We are more than willing to include lots of cash going out the door to move other contracts. Specifically this includes Rick Hill, Mike Moustakis & Wil Myers. Ryan Braun is a bit in limbo, we'd prefer to keep him, but could move him in the package in return was strong enough.

Two other contracts of interest are Brad Peacock & Hunter Strickland.
We are willing to acquire draft picks in return or minor leaguers who have not flamed out.

Mike Moustakis has been traded, along with Grant Dayton.

Still looking to move Wil Myers, Rich Hill, Aaron Barrett, Hunter Strickland, Brad Peacock; and possibly Ryan Braun.

Adam Lind & Jaime Garcia can be had for $50,000 or any minor leaguer you want to dispose of.

Wil Myers is packing his bags and headed to ....?

We received a few offers for Rich Hill which are basically the same. The offers requests we give up picks and prospects to be relieved of Rich Hill's contract. While we are willing to pay down roughly half of Hill's contract, it's unlikely we also trade away a 1st round pick or a prospect still on a Top # list. Primarily thinking about Will D Smith, Varsho & Daz Cameron as being in that group.

We also received offers for Strickland. Hunter is cheap and has two years remaining. Therefore we will require equal value for him. He's available, just not part of the tear down.

Last week Pirates were $38mil in the red. Now we have almost $11mil in cap space. Fire sale is over. Thanks to all who participated.

After a meeting of the minds, Pirates decided to see what we can get for Ryan Braun. Also available are Wilmer Flores, Tim Beckham & Dan Palka.

Let us know your ideas for a swap. We're more likely to move Braun for mid-draft picks rather than prospects. Although that is open to negotiation.

Thank you.

Additionally. Pirates looking to move contract of Jaime Garcia. Jaime should get a projection for 2019. We are offering our 2019 1st round pick (1-17) to make this happen. We will pay 50% of the contract for both 2020 and 2021.

Jaime Garcia has been moved as per our offer to pay 50% of 2020 & 2021 salary + our 1st round pick. In return we received a pitcher who who highly drafted in 2015, but has yet to figure out how to get out of AA. Maybe he can get all his oars rowing in the same direction in the near future.

Overall we received five inquiries. We accepted the offer we liked best.

Thanks to all who took the time to contact us.

We remain interested in moving Ryan Braun, Wilmer Flores, Dan Palka and Tim Beckham. They can be dealt in a package or separately.

Tim Beckham was dealt a few days ago.

Ryan Braun, Wilmer Flores & Dan Palka have their bags packed. We're not looking for much for any of them either solo or in a combination.

Pirates looking for a 3B eligible guy who is above average defensively with at least an OPS+ >85.
Or with an OPS+>=110 and no worse than a bit below average defensively.

Let us know if you have anybody matching that description you'd be willing to part with.

Thanks for reading.

That does describe Jedd Gyorko doesn't it?

It does describe Gyorko; along with a few other guys who have been brought to our attention.

However

We are rethinking our need for a 3B guy because we already have a competent one on the roster. We may just go with the in-house option of Brian Anderson at 3B.
