Game 1 of 2018 WS:
Oriole Park at Camden Yards
Temperature: 72, Sky: partly cloudy, Wind: none.
Game 1 starters:
MIA: J Quintana (3.44 ERA, 9-12 record)
BAL: M Wacha (2.28 ERA, 7-2 record w/ BAL, 2.06/19-7 record overall)

1st inning:  Wacha rolls through the top of the 1st facing only 3 batters.  Quintana has a rough start as both Pirela and Pham start the bottom of the first off with hits.  Smoak follows with a sac fly to get the O's on the board in the first inning.  Quintana then settles down to get out of the inning only down 1-0.

2nd inning: The Marlins come storming back in the second with two walks sandwiched between hits by Martinez and Garcia to score 2.  Profar then tries to move Frazier/Garcia up with a bunt but pops it up.  Frazier is then caught stealing and Brinson K's to end what could have been a much bigger inning. Quintana having caught his breath after the 1st inning comes back and shuts down the O's retiring 3 straight in the inning.  Score 2-1 MIA.

3rd inning: Neither team gets much going as the Marlins go down in order and the O's come up with a single by Pirela but go otherwise go quietly. Score 2-1 MIA

4th inning: Another fairly quiet inning.  Martinez leads off the inning with a single for Miami, but Contreras hits into a double play and then Frazier grounds out.  In the bottom of the inning, Quintana shuts down the O's in order.  Score 2-1 MIA

5th inning: Wacha heads back out for the 5th and proceeds to retire the side on 6 pitches.  With the short rest Quintana comes out for the bottom half and immediately gives up a solo shot to Susac to tie the game.  After getting Bogaerts to fly out, Pollock singles and then scores on a home run by Pirela who is now 3-3 in the game.  Quintana settles down to get out of the inning but the damage has been done.  Score 4-2 BAL

6th inning: The Marlins attempt to mount an immediate comeback in the 6th with  Albies drawing a one out walk.  After Bell strikes out, Martinez reaches on an infield single.  With two on, Wacha is able to get out of the inning when Contreras flies out to centerfield.  Freeman leads off the bottom of the 6th with a double and after LeMahieu bunts him over to third, Bryant brings him home with a single up the middle.  Score 5-2 BAL

7th inning: Wacha comes back out for one more inning and is able to retire the Marlins in order.  Belisle comes in for MIA to pitch the 7th.  He works around a single by Pirela (his 4th hit) and a Pham walk to get out of the inning.  Wacha's night is over after throwing for 7 Innings with 4 hits, 3 BB's and 6 K's.   Score 5-2 BAL

8th inning: C Knebel comes in for BAL to pitch the 8th.  Miami tries again to rally when Albies singles to right.  The O's immediately go to Iglesias to try to close out the game.  Bell singles through the right side to put Marlins at 1st and 3rd but Iglesias ends the inning by getting Gamel to groundout to short.  BAL goes quietly in the bottom of the 8th.  Score 5-2 BAL

9th inning: The Marlins have one more shot to tie it up.  Contreras starts off the inning with a single  to left.  Garcia follows with an infield single after a Frazier K.  Profar then walks to load the bases with one out.  Iglesias is able to strike out Espinosa and Herrera grounds out to end the game.

Final Score 5-2 BAL.

Game 2 of 2018 WS:
Oriole Park at Camden Yards
Temperature: 73, Sky: partly cloudy, Wind: none.
Game 2 starters:
Miami: German Marquez, 9-11, 3.78 ERA
Baltimore: Wilmer Font, 7-12, 2.86 ERA

1st Inning: Both pitchers gave up a leadoff single to start the inning but were able to get a double play and a fly out to get out of the inning unscathed. Score: 0-0

2nd Inning: Font retired the Marlins in order in the top of the inning.  Smoak led off the bottom half with a single but Marquez retired the next three batters to end the second inning with the score still tied.  Score 0-0

3rd/4th Inning: The theme continues as both Marquez and Font dominated the hitters as neither team could mount an attack through 4 innings.  Score 0-0

5th Inning: Font continues to control the game as he retires Frazier/Garcia/Profar in order.  In the bottom of the inning Reddick gets the O's on the board with a leadoff homer.  Marquez immediately settles back down to keep the score at one and get out of the inning. Score 1-0 BAL

6th Inning: The Marlins bats finally get on track as Herrera singles after Brinson led off with a HBP.  Albies then grounds a double down the line to tie the game up.  Bell grounds into a fielders choice as Bogaerts throws home to force Herrera at the plate.  With two outs Contreras doubles deep to right center to bring home both Albies and Bell.  Font is able to strike out Frazier to stop the onslaught in the 6th.  Pham is able to scratch out a 2 out single but the O's were unable to capitalize.  Score 3-1 MIA

7th Inning: The Marlins could only garner a Profar single in the top of the seventh.  In the bottom half Kris Bryant led off the inning with a  homerun.  Marquez again squashes the Oriole threat and ends the inning with the Marlins still up.  Score 3-2 MIA

8th Inning: Justin Wilson comes in to replace Font.  Font's night ends with 7 IP, 6 H, 2 BB, 5 K.  Wilson  starts off the inning getting Albies to ground out but then gives up consecutive singles to Bell and Martinez which is then followed by a sac fly by Contreras to stretch the lead back out to 2.  Frazier ends the top of the inning with a strikeout.  Marquez comes out to start the 8th and immediately gives up a double to Bogaerts.  The hit ends Marquez night as he is replaced by B Hand.  Hand gets LaMahieu to pop up.  Game 1 hero J Pirela pinch hits for F Freeman (the announcers were critical of the choice at the time) and suprises the announcers with a single to center scoring Bogaerts.  That ends Marquez line for the night at 7 IP, 7 H, 0 BB, 5 K.  Pham walks on 4 straight and Smoak draws a fullcount walk to load the bases.  This forces MIA to go to B Morrow to get out of the jam.  Morrow immediately gives up a grand slam homerun to Bryant (his second of the game).  Morrow is able to end the inning after that but the damage is done.  five runs come across in the inning.  Score 7-4 BAL

9th Inning: Z Britton comes in to attempt to close out game 2.  Garcia flies out to start the 9th.  The Marlins keep fighting though as Profar singles and Brinson doubles to bring the tying run to the plate.  Britton gets Castillo to strike out and Albies to ground out to end the inning and send the series to MIA with the O's up 2-0.

Final Score 7-4 BAL
