Toast!
A couple of pitching moves occurred during the Dodgers’ disastrous Week 24 that I cannot understand. In the first inning of the first game of the week, only after three batters, two of which were strike outs, the third hitting a single, Jake Arrieta was pulled from the game and it became a bullpen affair for my staff. The Dodgers lost 3-4.
I cannot find any reference to an injury that occurred.
In the second game of the week, after two innings on the mound, Drew Pomeranz was pulled for a pinch hitter in the top of the 3rd with no outs and a runner on first. Granted, Pomeranz had allowed two runs (one of which was unearned due to his own error) but that’s hardly a sign of throwing batting practice. The Dodgers lost 2-3.
Again, I can find no evidence of an injury.
The Dodgers made a couple minor changes to the weekly MP, but none that would/should have impacted such inexplicable actions.
Any of you far more fluent in reading into MP structure and/or box scores are most certainly welcome to offer a logical explanation. Although the balance of the Dodgers' 2018 season has been relegated to playing out the string, if there is something that could be avoided in 2019 and beyond, it would be valued information.
