2015 Baltimore Orioles - Team Outlook
« on: 7 Oct 2014 3:41:04 PM »
Expiring contracts:
Chris Capuano
Felix Hernandez
Adam Wainwright
James Russell
Grant Balfour
Robinson Cano
Alex Gordon

Not a huge list, but a very impactful list.  I've got four major holes to fill (Felix/Waino/Cano/Gordon).

Arbitration Decisions:
Jason Vargas
Drew Storen
Francisco Cervelli
Dexter Fowler

A couple of big decisions here. Vargas and Storen pitched well this year in RL.  We'll see what info I have on hand when decision time comes around.

The Rotation:
Jordan Zimmerman
Hisashi Iwakuma
RA Dickey
Jason Vargas

Not a need as I like this setup but will look at an upgrade that moves Vargas to #5.  If I stick with this I will most likely look for the #5 role to be filled by one of Edwin Escobar/Drew Pomeranz/Nick Tepesch.

Bullpen:
Steve Cishek
Matt Thornton (L)
Drew Storen
Justin Wilson (L)
Tommy Hunter
Addison Reed

I'm very comfortable going forward with this as my bullpen next year.  I shouldn't have to do much with it in FA.  As depth I have Jeurys Familia/Escobar/Pomeranz/Tepesch.

Lineup:
C: Derek Norris
1B: Matt Adams
2B: Kolten Wong
SS: Xander Bogaerts/Peralta
3B: Jhonny Peralta/Bogaerts
LF: Melky Cabrera
CF: A.J. Pollock
RF: Nick Markakis
DH: Billy Butler

Quite a mix here.  Bogaerts and Butler really struggled in 2014 so they should see a drop.  Norris, Cabrera, Pollock all did better than I expected so I'm hoping for an increase.  I still do not have a stud that can carry the lineup so I might look for something there.

Bench:
C Francisco Cervelli
2B Cory Spangenberg
OF Dexter Fowler
OF Matt Szczur

Farm:
I'm hopeful that I might get sims that are useful from the aforementioned Escobar, Familia, Pomeranz, Tepesch.

I'm also looking to see what I get for:
Kris Bryant
James Ramsey

I would love it if Bryant gets a good ZIP, he might be the big bat this team needs as soon as 2015.

I should have some cash to make some moves but not many holes to fill.  Looks like I might need to make a few deals to clear a roster spot for a big upgrade.

I think Kris Bryant will get a fantastic projection and should be your starting third baseman, and maybe the best bat in your lineup.  We'll see if I'm right about that one, though.

.260/.340/.470 or better, I would guess. Regardless, it should be worth starting.
